FISHING SEASON OPENS
Good Bags Secured Comparatively few anglers were abroad yesterday for the opening day of the freshwater fishing season. The day was too cold and the snowfed rivers too high to provide good fly fishing, but some excellent bags were taken from the Fareora by means of the creeper, a number of good conditioned fish of up to 31b being caught. Worm fishermen secured good bags from the Opihi above the Pleasant Point bridge and from the Temuka and the Waihi. A number of anglers tried their luck with the fly on the Temuka. but the day was not warm enough to provide hatches of flies and few fish were caught by this means. The Ohape Creek was still high and discoloured and it will be some time before it is in a fit state for good fishing.
