Bali Wins Again Backers selected Lord Broiefort 1075-910, Lunaria 700-911, Royal Chorus 676-792, Bali 637-723 and Sandy Cape 540-782 for the Sea View Hurdles. Shipmate refused to jump out with the others. Bali led over the stand hurdle from Banco. Sandy Cape and Lunaria. and at the six furlongs Bali was followed by Lunaria, Sandy Cape and Banco, the rest being well back. Lunaria ran up to Bali at the top, with Sandy Cape following at three length intervals. Bali and Lunaria jumped the last fence together, but Ball finished better and won by half a length. Sandy Cape was five lengths away, 12 in front of Banco. Royal Chorus fell at the six furlongs and staked himself badly. Win for Kerrytown The Kerrytown pacer Battle On was sent out a 1-3 favourite for the Brookville Trot at Wingatui. from Redcliffe Direct and More Expense. Special Effort attempted to lead all the way. Passing the stand he was attended by Blue Heaven and at the mile the call was Special Effort, Blue Heaven, More Expense, Stimulant. Battle On, who was slow away, moved up along the back, and he joined Special Effort at the top. With the advantage of the inside running Special Effort regained the lead in the straight, but Battle On finished the stronger and won by two lengthss. Stimulant was a length and a half behind Special Effort, with More Expense the only other to make a showing. Hunt Cup to Outsider Strip 1472-1092, Steward 1059-1081 and Filibeg 534-757 topped the betting on the Otago Hunt Cup. Filibeg, Court Talk, Steward, Spanish Main and Strip were bunched when the stand double was reached, and at the mile Court Talk was leading Filibeg, Strip, Steward Spanish Main and Islay Downs. Islay Downs took charge at the brush double at the back from Spanish Main, Steward and Strip. Steward came to grief half a mile from home, and Islay Downs piloted Spanish Main, Court Talk, Filibeg, Strip and True Range over the water jumn. Court Talk crashed at the last fence. Islay Downs battled on to win by a couple of lengths from True Range who got up to beat his bracket-mate, Spanish Main by a neck. Strip. Filibeg and Heidelberg were next. Waveline, Jacksonville. Attire, Royal Don, Safelight, Steward and Court Talk fell at different stages of the journey. Gold Lance Beats Weak Field The three-year-olds Major ArgosyLexia 1334-1194 and Knight Crusader 747-912, although drawn wide out dominated the betting on the President’s Handicap. The field was a big one, but deficient in quality. Page’s Raid, Venturesome, Beyreuth and Miss Hula all began slowly. Gold Lance

and Lexia made play from Girl Friend and Sunny Course. Across the top Girl Friend was out clear of Gold Lance, with Sunny Course, Royal Coon and Lexia handy. Girl Friend maintained her lead until well in the straight where Gold Lance ran her down and went on to beat her by three lengths. Sunny Course was two lengths away leading a bunch which included Bath Slipper, Black Light. Sumra and Western Front, and Knight Crusader. Smart Filly Sphere 818-935, Sing Sing 780-733, Foxchase 685-800 and Psalm 678-858 topped the betting on the Tally-Ho Handicap. Psalm and Eastern Coin were a bit fractious at the barrier. Flying Hawk, Joygiver and Royal Writ were racing just in front of Sphere when the field had settled, and at the far turn Royal Writ, Sphere, Siglow, Flying Hawk, Joygiver and Psalm were prominent. Flying Hawk and Sphere were first into the home stretch, but Psalm finished brilliantly on the inside and won by nearly two lengths from Flying Hawk. Pride of Mossburn ran home strongly and beat Sphere on the post for second the pair being two lengths behind Flying Hawk. Good Cast, Sing Sing and Royal Writ were next. Trot to Trevathan ■ln the Wingatui Trot, Battle On 1557-1077. was preferred to Huntingdon Lass 1241-776, Tom Gundy 1119-990 and Buster 739-861. Aberhall lost ground at barrier rise, and Peter Dale broke up early. Ben Travis. Janet Hall, Tom Gundy and Buster led past the stand, and at the mile they were holding these positions. After passing the six Tom Gundy slipped through on the rails to take the lead from Ben Travis, Janet Hall. Trevathan and Battle On. Tom Gundy turned for home attended by Ben Travis and Janet Hall, and the Waikouaiti gelding was being acclaimed a winner when Trevathan appeared on the outside and paced home a winner by a length. Aberhall finished fairly well 12 lengths further back, just beating Battle On. Trevathan is now trained at Gore, but is still owned by F. Johnson. Placing Reversed Boolamskee 1846-1109 was installed a pronounced win favourite for the Hunters* Flat, with the Waimate maiden, Turnstile 969-1005 in more demand than Robert 911-966. Shipmate again declined to leave the starting post. Robert and Forage were first out, and at the mile the call was Forage. Nigger Miss, Robert. Boloyna and Kohara, the last two being Boolamskee and Turnstile. Racing across the top Forage was attended by On Silver and Robert, poloyna and Boolamskee. Forage held command until half a furlong from home, when Boloyna bore down on him and scored a long overdue win by a length and a half. Boolamskee was three lengths back, a length in front of Turnstile. When Boloyna challenged Forage he collided with him, and on a protest the placings were reversed. Weld Cona a Good Hack There were three well-backed runners—Weld Cona 1757-1073, Falconbridge 1388-1074 and Sir Bernard 12501125—for the Vauxnall Handicap. Fuzzy Wuzzy lost a good deal of ground m the early s tages. Milton Abbas and Red Prize were soon in front from Weld Cona, and across the top Milton Abbas ana Red Prize were followed by On Silver, Falconbridge and Weld Cona. Milton Abbas neld command until 100 yards from the judge, where Weld Cona raced through on tne inside and won by nearly two lengths, from the Oamaru gelding. Falconbridge was two lengths further back, with Douglas Haig heading the rest.
