NEW U.S. PLANE

One Of World’s Fastest WASHINGTON, September 26. The Navy has released details of the new plane “Fireball,” which uses both jet propulsion and a conventional type of engine With propeller. The plane has a 1350 h.p. engine in the nose and a Thermal jet engine in the tail. Both can be used simultaneously, or the plane will fly with either.

The speed of the Fireball is not disclosed, but the Navy said it was one of the world’s fastest. Its performance varies little from sea level to 25,000 feet, the efficiency of the jet increasing as the conventional engine’s efficiency declines during the climb to a high altitude.

rhe Fireball was in production several months before the end of the war.
