JOINED ENEMY FORCES
N.Z. Soldier Charged LONDON. September 26. A charge of joining the enemy's armed forces will, for the first time, be laid before a cour-martial on October 1, when a New Zealander, R. N. Courlander, of the Second N.Z.E.F., will be on trial, says the “Evening Standard.” The indictment charges that in Europe between October 1, 1942, and September 4, 1944, after being made prisoner, he voluntarily aided the enemv bv writing and delivering broadcasts, by joining and working lor the British Free Corps and by joining the armed forces of the enemy. The armed forces referred to are SS. Courlander was captured when a force under Brigadier Perrington surrendered at Kalamata in Greece, on April 29. 1941. British forces found him in Brussels last September. Courlander. until his arrest last week, was attached to a New Zealand rest camp near Dover.
