FAIR RENTS ACT
Amendment To Benefit Ex-servicemen
(N.Z.P.A.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 17. By the Fair Rents Emergency Regulations, 1945, gazetted to-night, it is provided that, where the occupier of a dwelling-house agrees to let part of a house to a servicemen, the occupier and the serviceman may, by an agreement in writing approved by an inspector of factories before the commencement of the tenancy, agree that the Fair Rents Act shall not apply to that tenancy or to any sub-letting by the serviceman.
‘This means that, on the termination of any tenancy so entered into, the occupier of the house may recover possession of that part of the house he has let to a serviceman.
Any such agreement approved by an inspector is exempt from stamp duty and is conclusive evidence that the tenant is a serviceman and that the agreement had been made under the Regulations.
