St. Martin’s Church A meeting of parishioners of St. Maijtin’s Church was held recently when final arrangements were made for an entertainment to raise funds for renovations to the church. The programme will include the presentation of two one-act plays and other items, and with the co-operation of all interested it is hoped to have a well-stocked sales table and produce stall to help augment the fund. D.ama Group There was a good attendance of those interested in the forming of a Drama Group at Albury (under the direction of Mr G. Worthington, of Canterbury University College), when the first meeting was held in the Red Cross room on Tuesday evening. Mr Worthington briefly outlined and discussed with intending players a number of plays from which a selection will be made so that all members may participate. The plays selected will be rehearsed over the' nine weekly visits by Mr Worthington to the group, and produced by him in September. Appeal For Clothing At the August meeting of the W.D.F.U. at Albury. Mrs J. J. Page, president of the Albury branch of the Red Cross Society, expressed her appreciation of the excellent response to the recent UNRRA appeal from residents of the Albury district. Three hundred and ninety one garments in good repair and of good quality suitable for men. women and children, had been received, and further supplies would be dispatched to Timaru this week. Mrs Page thanked all who helped with the packing last week, when a well-filled bale of warm clothes was forwarded. Clothes more suitable for summer use are also being received and will be sent to the camp for Polish children at Pahiatua.
