Mr F. T. M. Kissel, chief electrical engineer, Public Works Department, who is indisposed, is expected to return to his duties within a few weeks. During his absence Mr A. C. Owen is acting as electricity controller. The Dunedin City Council at its fortnightly meeting on Monday appointed Mr James Alfred Aitcheson to the position of city treasurer, at a salary of £lOOO a vear. He will succeed Mr H. H. Henderson, who is retiring afterholding tlie position since 1910. Reference to the deaths during the year of Messrs J. Barron and H. B. 8. Johnstone, and a tribute to their services, was made by the president (Mr G. H. Andrews) at the annual meeting of the South Canterbury Justices' Association last night. A motion of condolence with the relatives was carried in silence.
Sympathy with Mr A. E. Smith, a Temuka member of the South Canterbury Justices’ Association, in the death of his wife, was expressed at the annual meeting last night when a motion of condolence was carried.
