Carrier Pigeon Found In Shark Official R.N.Z.A.F News Service BOUGAINVILLE, July 26. How a carrier pigeon got, its message through to Australian headquarters makes one of the strangest stories of the Bougainville war. Naval ratings aboard an Australian vessel anchored a mile off-shore were fishing from the stern of the ship when a shark was seen cutting through the water a short distance away. They shot it through the head wit.ii a revolver and dragged it aboard. The shark, which measured six feet, was cut open, am! in its stomach was found a heap of feathers and a roll of thin paper—an operational message which had been sent by pigeon on July 7. Tlie pigeon was not allowed Io finish its mission alive, but. the message got through. It was delivered to its destination on July 12.
