DOCKERS STRIKE

Government Intervenes (7.30 p.m. - ) LONDON. July 23. The Government to-night intervened in the go-slow strike at the London docks, which have been almost at a standstill for two months. At a mass meeting to-day the dockers rejected the wages proposals agreed to at a joint conference on Saturday, whereupon the Ministry of Labour announced that the Government had decided that ships carrying essential cargoes shall continue to use the port when necessary. Avoidable delays cannot be permitted, wherefore all necessary steps will be taken to ensure expeditious handling. The nature of the intervention is not stated. The "Daily Express” says that soldiers will be brought In to keep supplies moving. The go-slow strike has reduced London to a fifth-rate status, until the dockers return to full work.
