Progress On Borneo (7.30 p.m.) WASHINGTON. July 23. hi the Balik I’apan area the Australians overran enemy positions in the vicinity of Ml. Balochampar and patrolled three miles on the inland road, reports General MacArthur's communique. R.A.A.F. fighters attacked the Sandakan area in Northern Borneo, destroying or damaging military installations and motor transport and setting fire to storage facilities. R.A.A.F. bombers and fighters in widespread sweeps cratered the Tanamon airfield in the Celebes, strafed and set on fire watercraft and fuel supplies in the Moluccas, sank two barges and set on fire installations In Hie l esser Sundas. Medium bombers struck enemyoccupied villages in the Wewak sector. Marine and R.N.Z.A.F. units attacked isolated enemy eroups in the Bismarcks and Solomons. Air patrols destroyed eight cargo ships of! South-west Formosa, ranged over the China Sea and sank two enemy freighters. damaged another In the Gulf of Siam, sank a schooner. harassed harbour < r;itt. mid bombed rail insl.allal ions in IndoChina.
