Decentralisation Advocated The issue of licences to establish a rubber Lyre factory is a matter for cioi ermiuat ion by the Bureau of Industry under I lie Industrial Efficiency Act. the Minister of Industries and Commerce 'the Hon. D. G. Sullivan) informed the Mayor of Timaru (Mr A. E. S. Hanan). The Bureau recently considered a number of applications, but no decision bad been made. ■‘You may be assured that the question of location for the new factory is one which will receive very earnest consideration by the Bureau,” added the Minister, “and in this regard the representations you have made concerning opportunities lor the South Island have been passed on to the chairman of the Bureau. If any licences arc granted there will probably be two.” After receiving this letter. Mr ll:.nan sent the following telegram to Mr Sullivan: “If you allot the tyre industry to a secondary town in the South island, the Government will be giving an example of its decentralisation policy.” Last night Mr Hanan received a telegram from the Minister: “The matter is entirely one for the Bureau of Industries to whom I have referred vour representations.” I
