LIGHT AIRCRAFT
British Makers’ Plans LONDON, July 21. British aircraft manufacturers will make a determined effort to capture the Australian post-war market for light planes. They regard Australia as one of the best potential markets for this type of aircraft. Australia, with its long distances and favourable climate, is regarded as an ideal flying country. The wartime increase in the number of pilots and skill ’d ground personnel will, it is believed. result in a vast expansion of “private" and aero club flying. British designers have come to the conclusion that the plane for which the greatest demand can be expected is the "family type.” This would be a three or four-seater capable of carrying a small quantity of luggage and having a maximum range of 800 miles at a cruising speed of 130 miles an hour. It would use little more than 10 gallons of ordinary motor spirit an hour.
