War Prisoners In Britain N.Z.P.A.—Special Correspondent (7.30 p.m.) LONDON, July 19. “They arc mostly all normal or sick cases requiring no special treatment on their return to New Zealand,' is the medical comment on the New Zealand returned prisoners of war who are in hospital in England. Marv of tne cirl’est irtivals lr< m the Continent suffered from malnutrition. chiefly due to enforced n ches on short rations in bad weather. lA'ith food—regular loud—all these cases of malnutrition were conipiet: :y recovered. except for three patients who are now en route to New Zealand b' hospital ship. They are still : ffeiiug some degree of anaemia and v e liable to a swelling of the legs. It is hoped that they will benefit by the sea voyage and may be well vin on arrival m tile Dominion. If i. , they will require further treatment. There were very few cases Oi malnutrition among the later ar-avals from the Continent. Some are in hospital suffering from wounds or injuries, while - few had tuberculosis, but it is stated that thee were no serious cases among then.. Many men wer r sent to hospital as a precaution, if they had a slight complaint, and remained under observation for a few days. The numbers of men in hospital and details regarding the coiiTvlai’its from wliieh they aie suffering, together with the total number discharged, are not available here. It is stated that these facts will nil be sent to Array Headquarters in Wellington. For ne obscure reason there is reluctant-, to release them there.
