NEW MARKETS
Dominion Products
(Special) WELLINGTON, July 18. The establishment of a marketing corporation on a co-operative pro-ducer-controlled basis by the Meat and Dairy Boards, and perhaps the Fruit Board, was suggested by the Dominion president of the New Zealand Farmers' Union (Mr W. W. Mulholland) In his presidential address at the annual conference of the Union to-day. Mr Mulholland said that a small levy on produce, which could well be regarded as an insurance premium, would enable such a project to be established. Its object would be to introduce New Zealand products to markets which were not now open to them. It might entail developing facilities and facing initial losses, but he thought it was necessary to take active steps to expand the range of markets to which New Zealand produce could be sent. There was a large amount of land throughout New Zealand which was onlj’ in a partial state of development, said Mr Mulholland. There was a considerable amount, also, that was awaiting development provided the necessary finance and labour could be provided for the purpose and economic conditions were satisfactorily adjusted.
