“NAVY “KITTY”
R.A.F. Coastal Command To Have Share Meetings are taking place between the Admiralty and R.A.F. Coastal Command on the question of sharing out Naw prize monev—amounting to £11.000.000. The Navy Prize Fund is controlled by a special Prize Court, whose President, sitting at the Law Courts in the Strand, decides whether enemy property seized on the high seas is contraband or not Chief Officer of the Court, the Admiralty Marshal, disposes of the seized vessels and their cargoes. The millions of pounds already in the prize “kitty” arc only a small part of the funds that will be available when the big shareout takes place. The major assets are ships the Navy captured, often with the aid of the R.A.F. Most of these have been requisitioned by the Ministry of War Transport, and will serve the Allied cause till they are sold at the end of the war. The Navy is prepared to concede a share in the prizes to Coastal Command. whose long and lonely patrols have often spotted the enemy prize and guided the Navy to the kill. Indications are that, the R.A.F generally will not participate, though ' a case is being made out for bomber and fighter pilots who have rounded up enemy shipping for seizure by land forces.
