Heavy Fall Of Snow After heavy rain on Friday, snow began to fall late in the evening, and by Saturday morning the snow was six inches deep in the township. The weather is still unsettled and high, gusty winds have caused the snow to drift. Temperatures are cold, and there has been very little thaw in the last two days. Motorists travelling to Haka Valley need chains as the road over the hill, which had been used since the bridge was washed away, is very slippery and service cars have been unable to negotiate the grade without chains. Should heavy frosts occur, as happened two years ago. the snow will lie for several weeks and frosts of more than 30 degrees may be expected. There are no reports of stock losses, and indications are that the fall of snow wa i heavier in coastal areas. All football, hockey and golf matches were postponed.
