TECHNICAL SCHOOL PUPILS

Drive For Patriotic Funds “In order to raise money for the patriotic fund many students of the school have offered to do odd jobs for citizens of Timaru on Saturday and the following Saturday,” the Principal (Mi G. Hill) reported to the meeting of the Timaru Technical College Board of Managers last night. Residents were asked to notify the college of their requirements. Boys were available for gardening work, etc., and girls for sewing, housework, etc. A charge of 6/- a day and 3/- a half day would be made. "Students worliing under the scheme would hand in their names to a member of the staff who is acting as supervisor,” Mr Hill concluded. “In addition, many students who work regularly on Saturdays have offered to hand in a day’s earnings. We hope that there will be a good demand for our students on Saturday.” Mr A. E. Laurence said that it would be necessary to cover the pupils by insurance while they were engaged in working for various residents. The Principal was instructed to make inquiries about “'Turing a “blanket cover” for pupils thus engaged.
