French Belief
Situation Artificially Created (1.10 a.m.) LONDON, May 31. French circles no longer disguise their belief that the situation in Syria and the Lebanon has been artificially created, states the Associated Press correspondent at Paris. They declare that, if pressed, they can produce documentary evidence in support of the belief. Reuter’s quotes Paris morning newspaper comment on the Levant situation. “Lorde Saite” says calm will return to the Levant as soon as certain foreign influences cease to act against us. “France Libre” says Britain is interested in the region which is on the route to India. Russia is thinking of her interests in the Eastern Mediterranean. There is also the great question of oil. which interests everybody, including the United States
