RICCARTON NOTES

(Special) CHRISTCHURCH, May 30. Heavy rain fell yesterday, also through the night. The tracks at Riccarton were very heavy this morning and there was no work of importance There is an improvement in the ccnditions to-day and it looks as if the worst of the storm is over. More than a dozen horses from here will race at the Dunedin Jockey Club's meeting. Those who -competed at Washdyke went on to Wingatui from there, as did one other. Weld Cona. Four fresh Riccarton candidates, Contemptuous. Miss Myra, Justitla and The Crofter, will go south to-night.

Though Foxhaven will not race at the Dunedin meeting, there is nothingwrong with him. C. C. McCarthy is keeping him in strong work, in view of a trip to Trentham in July. After a veterinary examination it has been decided not to race Dividend again and in future he will be used as a hack. Most of his racing was done for the late Mr E. Hay. his successes including the Jumpers’ Flat Handicap at Riccarton and two hurdle races at a Great Northern meeting in Auckland. On the death of Mr Hay he was bought by Mr A. Syme, for whom he did some steeplechasing, being placed several times, though he did not win for his

Gay Fort has been on the easy list since he came home after winning the steeplechase at Washdyke. His future programme has not been settled but he may be nominated for Trentham in July. He looks a very good prospect over country. Silver Sal has started on a spell but it will last only a few weeks, as it is intended to hace her in August. She has earned a short rest, after an unlucky season, in which she has had six seconds and two thirds, without a win.
