MEAT AND BUTTER

Reduced Rations Predicted (Special) DUNEDIN, May 30. The Wellington correspondent of the "Evening Star” states it is confidently expected that before this week ends an announcement will be made of a reduction in the meat and butter rations in New Zealand. Certain hotel and restaurant proprietors in Wellington are already providing against the coming limitation. Their usual practice is to place portions of butter on the table and leave matters to the discretion of the guest, who has an indication of the limit because the batter pat is small. Wellington Rotarians at their weekly luncheon were informed that butter would in future be provided in small pats, and that no Rotarian should take more than two. The manager of one of Wellington’s largest hotels stated that he has already started to place similar limitations on guests.
