GERALDINE TENNIS CLUB

Closing Day The closing day of the Geraldine Tennis Club was held on Saturday, when the mens and women’s singles championships were held. The winner of the women’s section was Mrs Webb, who beat Miss Jary by 1 sets to 5. In the men's section. J. Stephens deleated I. Hislop in the final by 9 sets to 1 2.

The president, Mr H. W. W. Williamson, congratulated the winners and presented Dr. Mail’s Cup to Mrs Webb and Mr C S. Davies’ Cup to J. Stephens. Mr Williamson referred to the satisfactory season and thanked the officers for their efficient work. The return of many men from military duty overseas had nut new life into the club, and the prospects for next season were bright.

Patriotic Committee At the annual meeting of the Geraldine Inter-zone Patriotic Committee the chairman (Mr D. C. McKechnie) thanked the district committees for the way they had worked during the year in raising then- quotas. The amount to be raised this year was £2762/10 -, an increase of £ll5, caused by the extra amount required for post-war relief. The question of the location of welfare funds was discussed, and it was decided that all zones, so desiring, should be given their proportion of welfare funds to be held in sub-accounts. The following officers were elected: Chairman. Mr D. C. McKechnie; deputy-chairman, Mr p. H. Davis; delegates to Canterbury Provincial Patriotic Council. Messrs P. G. Withers and D. C. McKechnie; delegates to Zone Committee. Messrs P. H. Davis and R. E. Mcllwrick. The district quotas are as follows: Orari Bridge. £135: Orari, £334: Tripp Settlement. £ss’ Rangitata, £66: Rah"itata Island. £47: Peel Forest-Arundel. £215: Kakahu-Opuha, £63: Pleasant Vallev-Te Moana-Four Peaks, £190; Woodbury, £182: Hilton-Geraldine Flat. £196: Ganes and Beautiful Valleys. £102; Gera 1rf i"p and «»n”i>v>ns, £1174.
