ELECTORS’ ASSOCIATION
Sir,—Since its inception the Electors’ Association has not been lacking in novelty. The . spirit of the “Wee Macgregor” o£ yesteryear, with all its burlesque, is still with us. Excuses for defeat are variously good, bad, or indifferent, but that of Mr Ramsay is just plain silly. “We (the Electors’ Association) take it that the majority of the 7000 who boycotted the referendum were satisfied with the decision of Parliament,” says Mr Ramsay. Actually, Electors’ Association propaganda exhorted the absent 7000 to vote solidly against the proposal. The result being distasteful to Mr Ramsay, he now conveniently suggests that the referendum was boycotted. Presumably, according to the Electors’ Association’s argument, the 6000 people who did not vote at the last municipal election were in a boycotting mood, too. A vital principle of democracy is that majority electoral expression must be accepted. The electors have decided, and naturally Mr Carr will favourably present this decision before the Lands Committee.— I am, etc., R. W. ANDERSON.
