RICCARTON NOTES
(Special) CHRISTCHURCH. Apr. 16. The racecourse gates at Riccarton were not opened till half past seven this morning and for the next few months winter hours will be in force on the local track. The tracks were deserted this morning, when local and visiting horses were treated to a rest. Three races at Saturday’s meeting were won by locally trained horses, three by North Island visitors, while two winners from Otago. During the three days, North Island horses had eight wins. Riccarton nine and other parts of the South Island seven. Negotiations are in progress for the sale of John Gay and if the deal is completed he may go to. Australia. In the meantime lie has been nominated for the South Canterbury Jockey Club’s meeting to be held next week. Gallimaufrey broke down when having his first race, in the Pacific Handicap on Saturday. He will need a long spell before he can be tried again. He is a three-year-old by Salmagundi from Toti dal Monte, so he is a half brother to Haughty Toti. the dam of Gigli and Rebel Lass, the dam of Miss Medley. Foxleap ran her last race when she won the Army Handicap on Saturday She is quite sound, but. the decision to retire her will be adhered to. so she will be sent back to Stonvhurst. Io take up stud life. During three season's racing- she had seven wins and was placed six times. Pink Clover, a four-year-old ".elding by Kinnoull. owned in South Canterbury is now being trained by G. Barr who will educate him for steeplechasing.
