MISS E. SCOTT DEAD
Former Matron At Boys’ High School Thousands of old boys of the Timaru High School will learn with regret of the death of Miss Elizabeth Scott, which occurred at Remuera, Auckland, yesterday. Miss Scott, who was a niece of Mr Janies Scott, M.A., a former headmaster of the Timaru Mam School, was matron at Timaru Boys' High School from 1919 to 1937. Before coming to Timaru she was matron at Lincoln College. Known as •Mother," Miss Scott endeared herself to every bov whose privilege it was to be in her care. Quiet and efficient. Miss Scott, during her long association with the boarding establishment at the school, supervised the work in such a way that the boarders felt they were in a home away from home. At the start she had 25 boarders to care for, but by the end of her term the numbers had increased fourfold. As a former rector, Mr W. Thomas, testified when Miss Scott retired, she was intensely interested in every boy. much more than they ever guessed, for she was always in the offing to soothe, help and advise. She took a keen Interest in every department of the school, and it was her delight to turn out a well-dressed, happy boy on parade. One of her characteristics Was directness of speech, which many boys who were inclined to be dodgers found to their cost. When Miss Scott retired in 1937 she went to Auckland, where she resided up to the time of her death.
