WOMEN’S INSTITUTES
WASHDYKE Mrs Jones presided over the April meeting of the Washdyke Women's Institute. Final arrangements were made for the Paddy’s Market to raise funds to build dressing sheds at the school baths. The wandering shilling was won by Mrs Jones. Competitions resulted: Gooseberries, Mrs J. King 1, Miss I. King 2, Mrs Jones 3. Tray cloth from flour bag, Mrs James 1, Mrs Jones 2, Mrs J. King and Miss I. King (equal) 3. Premier bloom, cluster, Mrs James; single, Miss I. King. ST. ANDREWS At the April meeting of the St. Andrews Women’s Institute Mrs Johnston presided. A new member was welcomed. A vote of sympathy was passed with’ the parents and brother of the late Sergeant J. Dempsey. Mrs Cook was heartily thanked for making up the attractive cot quilt of peggy squares to be given to the local Red Cross Committee Items were given by Miss Ruby Ellis and Mrs Russell. Afternoon tea was served by Mesdames Lyall and Smith Competitions resulted: Bran biscuits. Miss W. Arden. Large bloom. Mrs White 1, Mrs Johnston 2, Mrs Kane 3. Small bloom. Mrs Kane 1.
