IMPERVIOUS TO WATER
New Marine Engine LONDON, February 28. A marine engine called “Vedette", specially produced and adapted by the famous British motor-car manufacturers. Morris Motors, is able to operate in the severest conditions of shinwreck. The engine which is installed in lifeboats of the British Merchant Navy, is impervious to cold and damp. It functions effectively even when partially submerged in heavy Arctic seas since the carburettor air inlet has a periscope type of tube attached which rises well above any possible water level. In addition, a magneto, whiefi is speciallv equipped with an impulse starter, is totally enclosed in a watertight cast iron box. High tension wirings arc metellically braided and waterprooied, while soarking olugs are of screened water-resisting type. Several ies's have been made py directing jets of high pressure water on wiring and magneto box. Lut thev failed to effect the steadv smooth running of ‘h? engine. One other outstanding feature °f the engine is that it operates without causing anv interference with tpp lifeboats wireless.
