THE SERVICES
Increased Pay (NZ.P.A.) WELLINGTON, Mar. 31. The Minister of Defence (the Hon. F. Jones) said to-day that the increases for members of the Armed Forces announced by Mr Fraser on March 3 applied equally to Navy and Air Force personnel as to the Army. In his opinion the Prime Minister's statement made that clear, and he was at a loss to understand why some doubt should now be cast on whether the Increases were to apply also to members of the Navy and Air Force. Mr Fraser had said that while every effort would be made to arrange for payment as early as possible, there was a considerable amount of detail work necessary and some time would elapse before payment could be made in all cases. Some delay had taken place, Mr Jomes added, but there had never been any question of Increases not applying also to the Navy and Air Force personnel. In their cases, too, the payments would be retrospective to June 30, 1944. It was only a question now of completing the adjustments involved. Every effort was being made to meet the position, and payments -would be made as soon as possible. Those entitled to the increases would not lose anything by the time taken to make adjustments of pay and dependants’ allowances.
