The feature of the concluding day of the Metropolitan Trotting Club's meeting was the consistent form of some of the winners on the first day. Dundee Sandy, Sea Max and Double Peter won again, while Lady Dawn dead-heated for first place. Watcher, Lady Dawn and Sea Born led for a mile and a half in the J. H. Williams Handicap. Sea Born took charge a little further on, with Happy Man, Lady Dawn, Knave of Diamonds, Black Label, Claremorris and Cabin Bay following him round the home turn. Happy Man led to the straight, but Knave of Diamonds dashed past only to be caught on the post by Lady Dawn, the pair dead-heating for first place. Black Label hung on to beat Claremorris for third. The favourite, Cabin Boy, was next, but never looked like winning after being badly placed most of the way. Warfield stumbled at the home turn, breaking a fetlock. Won On the Post Double Peter finished gamely to beat Gold Bar on the post in the Free-for-All. Ronald Logan led for nearly three furlongs, when Gold Bar headed him, while Double Peter took second place after going half a mile, with DuskySound and Happy Man also handy. Gold Bar led to the straight, but Double Peter wore him down, winning by a neck. There was a gap to Loyal Erlend, who finished fast and bejt Happy Man for third. Integrity oxi well to be fifth after breaking at the start. Haughty never looked dangerous.

After Invigorator had led him for a mile and a quarter in the Intermediate Handicap, Sea Gem took charge and easily stalled off Paul Parrish, who had been third most of the way. Steel King' came on with a late challenge to beat Modest Maid for third. Castigate broke badly at the start. Lady Bligh, never further back than third in the Papanui Handicap, ran past Real Grattan at the entrance to the straight and won decisively from Larissa, who was well placed all the way. Two Southland horses outclassed the field in the final stages of the Canterbury Handicap. Dundee Sandy took the lead after six furlongs had been covered, with Gallant Chief, Bel Hamed and Royal Fortune heading the next bunch. As they started the last round Navigate, badly placed at that stage, moved up along the back. He joined the leader three furlongs from home, and they cleared out to fight out a great finish, in which Dundee Sandy was going a trifle the better at the post. Several lengths back Gallant Maid beat Imperial Lady and Punctual easily. Dundee Sandy and Navigate are on the way to good class. P. Gallagher Injured Worthy Gold led early in the Pacing Stakes for three and four-year-olds, with Bonnv Bridge, Jack’s Son and Loyal Chief next, while with a round to go Chinook, Cameronian and Bohemian were handy. There were 13 starters for the Waiau Steeplechase at Riverton, but two, Dividend and Shadow Boy. were obtained at the expense of the Great Western. Another surprise was in store, the winner, at more than two score, turning up in Tenorman. whose only previous start, was in a huhters’ plate.
