RICCARTON NOTES

(Special), CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 31.

Whackie, with the three-year-old, Desert Victory, and the two-year-old, Majestic, arrived here this morning from Wellington. These three were passed in when Mr M. J. Moodabe’s horses were offered at auction at Trentham last Friday, but they were later bought privately by a Canterbury owner, who has placed them in the stable of C. G. Humphries. They are all in racing condition. Foxchase is another horse from Mr M. J. Moodabe’s team who has come here. He has been bought by a Christchurch owner, but no plans have been made for him as he is to have a spell before he goes into work. C. G. Humphries brought a new two-year-old back from Trentham. She is Tropical Night, a Robin Goodfellow filly, owned by Mi- H. P. F. Blundell, of Wellington. She had two races in the spring and has been resting since then. J. A. Cox has taken over the three-year-old filly, Trumpet Call, by Battle Song from Knocklyn, and will train her for her breeder, Mi - H. S. Williams. The two-year-old, Rayon, will have to miss her engagement at Saturday’s non-totalisator meeting, as she has contracted a cold. She is a Leighon filly, who has speed. ’

The Nightmarch-Sweet Beauty three-year-old filly, in H. Nurse’s stable, has settled down and she is now shaping well In her work. She should be ready* to race very Soon.

The horses who raced at Trentham are all having an easy time since they returned home.
