BATHER’S DEATH

Dived Into Shallow Water (N.Z.P.A.) TAUMARUNUI. Jan. 30. John Rata, aged 18, slipped while diving from a ledge into the Ongarue River yesterday, landing on shingle in shallow water instead of in the pool. He suffered serious injuries to the head and died in hospital last night. Rata was a fine athlete and was the youngest son of Mr J. Rata, Ongarue.
