Japan’s 111-gotten Empire (Rec. 7.30) NEW YORK. Jan. 29. “We are sealing the tomb which the Japanese created for themselves in their ill-gotten empire,” declared Admiral W. F. Halsev. addressing Pressmen with the Third Pacific Fleet. “Our fleet materially aided General MacArthur’s reconquest of the Philippines by destroying the airpower which might have reinforced the Japanese in the Philippines." said Admiral Halsey. “The Japanese have lost, control of the South China Sea. Our fleet can go in anv time it wants to." In live months the Third Fleet sank 89 warships and 563 merchantmen end destroyed 4370 aircraft. Its fast, carrier forces under Vice-Admiral J. S. McCain in 12 weeks sank or damaged 1161 tons of Japanese shinning aed destroyed 2945 enemy aircraft. Admiral Halsey’s fleet travelled 51.650 miles in *s’• mnnth.c
