RACING ON AND OFF THE TRACK

First race at Forbury at 12.15. First race at Trentham at 11.15. The Duke of Gloucester is said to have been represented at the Trentham sales.

Scott Axworthy got into a pocket in his race at Forbury last week. With only seven in the Dunedin Cup there should be no excuse on that score today.

Monagh Leagh is a very long striding pacer, and the Forbury track is not particularly well suited to her gait. Glenfalloch is to have a change of rider in the Patriotic Handicap, S. Waddell having been engaged. Kevin is still suffering from kidney trouble, and is unlikely to start at Trentham to-day.

W. J. Broughton, who was on Glerp, falloch last Saturday and Monday, is to ride Longsword in the Patriotic Handicap. The Highweight at Trentham to-day will give Royoney his last opportunity as a hack. Later in the season he may be tried as a hurdler. His knees, which at one time looked to be a bar to a jumping career, have fined down considerably. The fields in the Vauxhall and Otagc Handicaps at Forbury are identical. Horses running second and third in the opening event will be in strong demand in the Otago.

Royoney, Chicago, Royal Rae. Fort Royal, Tavern Light, Vafort and Big Money wil be ineligible for hack races after the Wellington meeting to-day Chicago, Vafort and Big Money for one win jump from the maiden class to open company.

H. N. Wiggins is making good progress after his fall at Trentham on Cup day, but he will have to miss engagements at Ellerslie on Monday. The three-year-olds, Artificer and Coronaire appear to be the popular selections for the Takapuna Cup. Air Port may prove capable of beating them. Early this season he won the President’s Handicap at Paeroa with 9.0, and was second in the Poland Cup with 9.8, being beaten a short head by Billy Peach. In the Waikato Cup (9.2) and Te Awamutu Cup (9.0) he was out of a place. The Auckland Cup again saw him out of a place, but in the A.R.C. Handicap, with 8.3. he finished fourth and was putting in good work at the end. The average of 934gns. for the Trelawny Stud draft at Trentham was a big way in excess of anything realised in the past by one breeding establishment. Friday’s average was the highest for one day at any previous sale, and brought the total average up to record figures. These results were the more notable because the number of lots submitted was greater than in the past.

Cup Day at Forbury The Forbury Park Trotting Club will revive its Dunedin Cup to-day after a lapse of four years. The best horses are not catered for, but generally the classes are tighter and stakes higher than last week. Form horses include:—

Vauxhall Handicap: Danny Malone, Castigate, Jimmy Dillon. Southland Handicap: Jeeves, Dinghy, Radiant Scott. Electric Handicap: Caledonian Girl,

Max Baer, Chuckles. Dunedin Cup: Claremorris, Scott Axworthy, Knave of Diamonds. Otago Handicap: Danny Malone, Castigate, Zona Grattan. Musselburgh Handicap: Radical, Navi-

gate, Bonny Axworth. King George Handicap: Dundee Sandy, Royal Fortune, Play Safe. Flying Handicap: Scott Axworthy, Safety Pin, Claremorris.

Trentham Prospects A patriotic fund meeting at Trentham has attracted many of the horses which raced at the Cup meeting, though most of the Aucklanders and the South Islanders have left for home. Fields will be smaller than on the previous days, but that may not simplify the task of finding winners. Competitors which were unlucky previously may secure a better run. The following may be supported:—

Wallaceville Handicap: Pink Bonnet, Royoney, Forest Art. Hopeful Stakes:. Loch Derg, Essay, Little Billy. Melrose Handicap: Bridgehead, Big Money, Carthage. Patriotic Handicap: First In. Tara King, Palfrey. Kaitoke Handicap: Bridgehead, Lord

Broiefort, Don Mac. City Handicap: Royal Heir, Sir Bradbury, Sleepy Fox. Staff Cup: Silver Sal, Da Vinci, Royal

Rae. Thorndon Handicap: Piccolo, Alright, Sing Sing.
