WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

CLAREMONT 'The January meeting of the Claremont Women's Institute was held at the home of Mrs P. R. Talbot. Mrs Cross presided. Christmas cards from local soldiers were read, also an airgraph from a link in Yorkshire sending Christmas and New Year greetings to all. Miss Talbot read a letter from a pen friend in Coventry. All present were interested to hear of her experiences and living conditions. An amusing competition, arranged by Miss Sevb, was won by Mrs W. Black. At the conclusion of the meeting Mrs Wallace, On behalf of members, thanked Mrs Talbot for lending her home for the gathering. Monthly competitions resulted: Greatest number of peas in six pods. Mrs Wallace 1, Mrs Seyb 2, Miss Sevb 3; large bloom. Mrs Wallace 1. Mrs Talbot 2, Mrs Seyb 3; small bloom, Mrs Talbot 1. Miss Seyb 2, Mrs Wallace 3.
