STEADY PROGRESS

Allied Forces In Burma (Rec. 12.15 a.m.) KANDY, Dec. 21. Two important Japanese bases, Wuntho and Nankan, on the MyltkyinaRangoon railway, have been captured by troops of the 14th Army, who recently advanced east from the Chindwin to link up with the British 36th Division in the railway corridor.

The correspondent of the Associated Press says this brings the Allied forces a further 50 miles down the railway since the capture of Indaw. Nankan lies about 35 miles south-west of Indaw, and Wuntho a further 16 miles down the railway. Nearly a quarter of the total length of the railway from Myitkyina to Rangoon is now in Allied control. In Northern Burma, Chinese troops have captured three villages near the Bhamo-Namhkam road, killing 200 Japanese and taking equipment and ammunition.
