BIRTH CONTROL
Sir,—There seems to be some misunderstanding of Uie terms birth control and abortion. It is definitely wrong to say there is no such thing as birth control, but that it is a fancy name for abortion. Other countries have had their birth control clinics for many years and in some cases since its introduction the birthrate has increased. The usual type of person who resorts to abortion is the overworked mother who already has as many children as she can care for and through lack of domestic help and inadequate housing is driven to despair. If birth control information were available for these women, abortion would never occur. The instincts of mother love still run high in this country. Through the work of the Plunket Society New Zealand children rank among the finest in the world. Women have willingly borne children since the beginning of time and will continue to do so. The healthy, normal woman who refuses to bear children is an insult to her sex and would make such a poor mother that for the children’s sake she. is better to have none. Mother love is essential in the up-bringing of children.—l am, etc., MOTHER OF FOUR.
