NEW RATION BOOKS
Nearly 15,000 Issued Good progress has been made In the issuing of the fourth series of ration books in Timaru, and when the special office in the Wesley Hall closed at 12.30 p.m. on Saturday a total of 14,795 had been issued for the week. The number usually issued in Timaru is between 19,000 and -20,000. The issues daily since Monday last were as follows, the number of children’s books being given in parentheses: Monday 2055 (353), total 2408; Tuesday, 2897 (461), 3337; Wednesday, 2539 (494), 3033; Thursday 2325 (489), 2814; Friday 2184 (451), 2635; Saturday. 442 (126), 568: totals 12,421 adults’ books and 2374 children’s books, a grand total of 14,795. Tire special staff of six will be engaged at the Wesley Hall again this week, but application for the ration books must be made before Saturday, otherwise householders will be unable to secure the butter issue which commences on the following Monday.
