THE NEW PROBLEM FIGURE
It is no longer the mature, but the slender figure, which is the corsetieres’ "problem” figure. Wartime legislation to conserve rubber, restricting elastic to so many inches per corset, is a real hardship to the slim, accustomed to elastic corsets. Mature figures find little difference in their wartime foundations; elastic has never played a major role for them. Their austerity Berieis mav be less beautiful to the eye, but flexibility and fit are practically unimpaired. No more over-the-counter buying for the slender. The fitting is too important, in the absence of elastic to ease out discrepancies. A try-on is indispensible. Important, too, to wait for the right Berlei rather than accept the nearest fitting. Berlei always stressed this; now they would like to shout it from the housetops. Waiting is exasperating; but wearing the wrong corset can be more so! ...
