Special Awards
The annual spring flower show and sale of work in aid of the funds of St Stephen’s Church was held in Aorangi Hall. Although the weather was not good, the display of flowers was well up to the usual standard. There was a good attendance of the public both in the afternoon and evening. Good business was done by the various stalls.
The judges were: Flowers, Mr G. Knowles; decorative work, Mrs H. N. Hope; produce, Mr W. Close; needlework, Mrs J. W. Grant and Mrs H. N. Hope; cookery, Mr A. Edward. The stalls were in charge of the following, who were assisted by willing helpers: Work stall, Mrs Bourn; Christmas tree, Mrs Foden; jumble stall, Mrs Hannigan and Mrs Sadler; mysteryparcels, Mrs Goodwin; plant stall. Mrs Ryder; produce, Mrs Johnson; cakes, M s S. Braddick; delicatessen. Mrs Saunders; luncheon room, Mrs Wilson and Mrs Carlton; afternoon tea, Mrs Bourn; supper, Mrs Burgess; games, Mr W. Jones; stewards, Mesdames J. C. Isitt, K. Goodman, Rapley, Mr J. Wilson; entertainments. Mr Bates. Misses Ferguson and Moriarty and Private Moffatt; honorary secretary, Mrs E. Fellden; treasurer, Mr D. Jeune. The following are the winners qf the cups and special prizes: St. Stephen’s Cup for narcissi, Mrs H. N. Hope; Talbot Memorial Cup, six varieties narcissi, F. N. Munro; Hone Cup, champion bloom, Mrs H. N. Hope; Mt. Cook Silver Billy, cut flowers, Mrs R. J. Murphy; Scott Cup, cookery, Mrs J. Brechin; School Challenge Cup, school cookery-, Dawm Smith; Searle Challenge Cup, children’s flowers, lan Ross; Mr S. P. Bray's trophy, flowering shrubs, Mrs R. J. Murphy; Mrs F. Carter’s trophy, decorative section, Mrs R. J. Murphy; Mrs Feilden’s trophy, polyanthus narcissi, Mrs J. Anniss; Mrs Carlton’s trophy, cookery, Mrs J. Brechin; Mrs Scott's trophy, cookery, Mrs J. Brechin; Mrs Foden’s trophy, cookery, Mrs J. Brechin: Mrs Elliott’s trophy, produce, Mrs T. Dobson; Mrs Feilden’s trophy, sweets.
