HIGH TRIBUTES PAID

Mr Morgan s Retirement (Special) ASHBURTON, Oct. 20. Mr H. Morgan, S.M., who has retired after serving for 42 years in the Department of Justice, conducted his last official sitting of the Ashburton Magistrate’s Court to-day. Tributes to the service given by Mr Morgan were paid by members of the legal profession, the Transport Department and the staff of the Courthouse. All the speakers, who included Messrs R. Kennedy. V. W. Russell. W. H. Woods, C. G. de C. Drury, R. W. Dixon (traffic inspector) and W. Haynes (clerk of court), wished Mr Morgan a long and happy retirement. Replying. Mr Morgan said he had many regrets at leaving the Bench. He had not reached the age when retirement was compulsory, but it had always been his intention to retire after serving for 40 years. The exigencies of war had, hc.vever, held things up slightly. After the Court had adjourned Mr Morgan was met by the Mayor (Mr E. C. Bathurst), representing residents of the borough and county, and by Messrs W. H. Rundle and E. H. Orr representing Justices of the Peace, all of whom expressed appreciation of his services and wished him a healthy and prosperous retirement. Mr Morgan suitably replied.
