BOOKMAKERS WITH FOUR ’PHONES
Magistrate Curious (N.Z.P.A.) WELLINGTON, Oct. 20. Four telephones were found in the premises of two brothers charged in the Magistrate’s Court to-day with carrying on the business of bookmaking, according to Detective-Sergeant Thompson. “How did they get four telephones?” asked the Magistrate (Mr J. L. Stout). “We hear there is a shortage of telephones, yet when bookmakers appear they have two or mo’-e telephones. It is about time it was looked into." Each of the accused was fined £lOO.
