MARKED SLACKENING
National Security Regulations (8.30 p.m.) CANBERRA, October 3. A marked slackening has been evident this year in the issue of national security regulations. The average monthly number has been the lowest since the war began. For the nine months which ended on September 30, 144 regulations have been gazetted, compared with 317 during August, 1943, 557 in 1942, 327 in 1941 and 296 in 1940. Tire issue of orders has also decreased sharply, while of the orders still in force many have been drastically modified. Officially only 168 national security regulations are now in operation. Orders have been issued in such prolific fashion since the outbreak of the war that even the Federal Law Department does not know how many are in existence. Estimates vary between 8000 and 10,000.
