SUCCESSFUL NIGHT
Mosquitoes Go For
Trains
(12.9 a.m.) LONDON, October 3. Tn one of the best nights against railway targets since D Day, Second Tactical Air Force Mosquitoes last night, without loss, attacked 51 trains, most of which were in Germany near the Ruhr Valley, and north-east toward the Dutch border. Eight trains were attacked between Emmerich and Gladback, four north of Coblenz, seven near Osnabruck and the others were spread over a large area of Germany and Holland, including the Arnhem area. Six locomotives were claimed as definitely destroyed, and 15 fires were started among other trains. One fire was visible for 30 miles. Five motor transport vehicles and nine barges were also attacked. After a bombing attack against a trawler off the Dutch coast, three cannon attacks were made and the trawler ran ashore while taking evasive action. A factory was also bombed and strafed.
Photographic interpretation of last evening's bombing by Mitchells and Bostons of seven German strongpoints at Arnhem shows that the bombing was exceedingly accurate. Most reports record that the “aiming point was completely plastered."
