Sir Clutha Mackenzie
(N.Z.P.A.) AUCKLAND. October 3. The longest regular single stage flight in the world across the Indian Ocean from India to Australia was made by Lieutenant-Colonel Sir Clutha Mackenzie, who returned by air to Auckland to-day. Sir Clutha is on leave from the Indian Medical Service for four months. He has been four years awav from New’ Zealand, the major part of the time in India, but also in Burma, Malaya. Canada and the United States. Sir Clutha said he had been on special duty with the Indian Medical Service, dealing with the problem of blindness in India, both among civilians and servicemen. He had met a large number of New Zealanders in
different capacities in India. Among them were the General Officer Commanding in Sir Clutha’s area. General Wilcox, of Christchurch, and Colonel Duncan and Mrs Duncan, of Christchurch. He had also seen a good deal of Mr R. G. Inglis, New Zealand Government representative in Simla, who was doing a good job there and had been very helpful.
