The inauguration of the Council housing scheme and greater aci ; .'ity by private builders have resulted n a substantial increase in the numbi of dwellings under construction in Th, iru. In September, 1943, 17 building >ermits, including two houses, of a 'tai value of £5548. were issued by the Timaru Borough Council, comi red with 25 permits (including eight new houses), of a gross value of £13,672 5/issued last month.
From April 1 to September 30. 943, the first six months of the flnaceial year, 75 permits valued at. £30,493 including 10 new houses to cost a 'tai of £11,125, were issued, but in the corresponding period of the current b uncial year 102 permits valued at £65,891 5 -. including 34 new ll ' uses of a total value of £45,835, had sen issued.
During last, month the permits i‘ ued included eight dwellings of a tai value Of £11.233. five house add. ons £770. one workshop £l5O, and one lew wool store £975 and 10 misccllai ous items totalling £544 15. -, maki a gross total of £13,672/15/-.
