CHAIRMAN RESIGNS
U.S. War Production Board
(7.30 p.m.) WASHINGTON, Sept. 30. Mr Donald Nelson, chairman of the United States War Production Board, has resigned. The announcement states that President Roosevelt, in accepting the resignation. stated that he was counting on Mr Nelson to remain in the Government in a high post of major importance. In a letter- of resignation, Mr Nelson stated that his work in China had now ben ceompleted. He had contemplated resignation ever since war production had successfully met its crucial test in the invasion of Europe, and he ha.l delayed his resignation only until he could set a course for the War Production Board in its reconversion policy. Mr Julius Krug has been appointed chairman of the War Production Board in succession to Mr Nelson. President Roosevelt said that Mr Nelson’s new post would be connected with laying the groundwork for postwar economic co-operation with other nations.
The Washington correspondent of the “New York Times” reports that Mr Nelson probably will become a kind of roving commercial ambassador, travelling as President Roosevelt’s personal representative, as he did on his missions to Russia and China.
