Exemption Sought No. 108 Appeal Board Most of the applications dealt with by the No. 108 Armed Forces Appeal Board at a sitting in Timaru yesterday were reviews of previous appeals, and sine die adjournments were renewed in the majority of cases. The chairman (Mr K. Mackenzie) presided, and associated with him were Messrs S. G. McClelland and J. Cooke. Mr W. C. Mayson was Crown representative and secretary. The following sine die adjournments were granted on review:—Raymond Allen Thin, woollen mill worker (Director of National Service), Robert Keith Allen, machinist (Jones Motors, Fairlie), Mona Ives, clerk, Temuka (James Morrison); Victor Joseph Hudson, carpenter (L. E. C. Freeman); Herbert William Walmer, P.W.D. linesman (Director); Leslie Thomas Johnson, farmer (Lavinia E. Johnson, Rosewill); Charles Trevor Tapp, company director (Morrison Coal Co., Ltd.); Douglas William Gray, farmer, St. Andrews (Director); Leonard Thomas Hanifin, farmer and contractor. Seadown); Arthur Wyndham Lindsay, baker (Herron’s, Ltd.); Peter Hanlin, electric welder (Hume Steel Co., Ltd.). Catherine Veronica Plever, dancing teacher, was recommended for indefinite leave from the W.A.A.C.

Adjourned sine die. to remain under the control of the district manpower officer in the off season from the freezing works: Ronald Arthur Robinson, head dryer, fellmongery department (New’ Zealand Refrigerating Co.. Ltd.). Adjourned sine die and reservists to remain subject to the direction of the manpower officer: Walter Giles, farm hand, Taiko (Director), Maurice O’Connell, jr„ and John O’Connell, farm hands (Maurice O’Connell, sr„ Totara Valley). Release from the Air Force recommended for an indefinite period: George Albert Vincent, lime worker (Mt. Somers Lime Co., Ltd.); W. C. Smith, farm hand (J. E. P. Cameron. Timaru); Bernard Edgar McDonald, fanner (A. B. McDonald. Eiffelton); M. O. Johnstone, radio serviceman; Daniel Cosgrove, plumber.

Recommended for three months’ release from the Army: James Douglas Faith, plasterer (S. Nicol) . The following appeals were dismissed: Henry John Cooling, tractor driver (R. E. White, Pleasant Point!; L. A. Scott, shearer, Glenavy (Director), George Arthur Divan, farm hand. Rosewill (Director), Keith Bell, farm hand, Geraldine (Director), David Robinson, farm hand, Four Peaks (Director).

The following applications for release were withdrawn:—Army—Clarence Winn, farm hand, Lyndhurst (Director); Air Force: Samuel Moore, cabinetmaker (Miss M. E. Finlayson); Gerald Colin Foster, woollen mill worker (Timaru Woollen Co., Ltd.).
