WOMEN’S INSTITUTES
GLENAVY A variety of ideas concerning the benefit derived from being an Institute member was forthcoming at the roll call when the Glenavy Institute held its June meeting. Mrs E. Coumbe presided. Arrangements were made for the birthday party in July. A humorous reading was given by Mrs W. Elliot, who also read an article on Thomas Bracken. A competition for best bloom resulted:—Miss C. McLean (chrysanthemum) 1, Miss E. McCulloch (rose) 2. Miss McCulloch was hostess. STUDHOLME Members of the Studholme Institute at the June meeting received from Mrs Hayman and Mrs Rollinsou tray and plate covers to be sewn for hospitals. The president (Mrs J. Kelly) reported that the work done by members during the month comprised:—ll peggy squares, a man's pullover, two pairs men’s sox, two pairs gloves, a man’s cardigan, three children's jerseys, two girls' dresses, a pair of mittens and seven men’s handkerchiefs. Competitions resultedßowl of flowers, Mrs Miller 1. Mrs J Kellv 2; two peggy squares. Mrs R. Miller 1, Mrs C. Rollinson 2. Mrs J. Kelly 3. AROWHENUA An interesting demonstration on making bread flowers and brooches was given by Mesdames A. Han-on and B Levens at the June meeting of the Arowhenua Women's Institute held in the Maori Hall. Competitions resulted as follows:—Large bloom. Mrs Anglem 1, Miss Greaves 2. Mrs O’Connor 3; small bloom. Mrs Anglem 1, Mrs Palmer 2. Mrs Beeby 3: three large potatoes. Mrs Anglem 1. Mrs Palmer 2. Mrs Beeby 3; three queen cakes, Mrs Beeby 1, Mrs Anglem 2. Mrs Palmer 3
