PRESIDENT RESIGNS
Upset In Guatemala (7.30 p.m.) GUATEMALA CITY, July 1. General Jorge Übico has resigned the Presidency and the Guatemala military junta has been taken over by the Government. The Government's suspension of constitutional rights, which was the prelude to the resignation of the Übico Cabinet, precipitated a strike of national university students, which threatened to spread swiftly. The junta, formed by Generals Eduarda, Ariza, Frederico Ponce, and Buenaventura Pineda, promised the restoration of constitutional rights. The junta Is forming a new Cabinet
General Jorge Übico was elected President in 1931 and his term was due to expire in 1937. but as a result of a plebiscite (June. 1935> it was extended to 1943. The Constitutional Convention ,1941 j extended thy p.rm to m<l.
