Chinese Success In Burma CHUNGKING, June 30. Chinese troops on the Salween front have captured Meinchin, narrowing to 64 miles the gap separating them from Lieutenant-General J. W. Stilwell's forces at Myitkyina. Other Chinese are closing in on Tengchtmg and have cut all the roads except that leading to Lungling. Japanese aeroplanes, appearing for the first time on the Salween front since the Chinese offensive began, dropped a small quantity of supplies to the beleaguered Japanese garrison at Suni’.shan. ■‘Air and ground action to dislodge the Japanese remnants east of flic Kohima-Imphal Road is in progress.” states a, South-east Asia communique. “North of the Palcl-Tamu Road there has been a successful patrol action. Eleven Japanese guns mid buried ammunition were round on Viceroy's Hill, which oi.li- troops occupied during Wednesday night. “The Chinese have advanced in the south sector of Myitkyina. Two Japanese al,tacks were repulsed. In tin’ Mogaung Valley, north of Seton, the Chinese have captured enemy equipment, including four 105 mm. antitank guns, machine-guns, and trucks. South-west, of Mogaung the Chinese are moving astride the railway.”
