ALLIED AIR POWER
Germans Amazed LONDON, June 16. German newspapers admit the overwhelming power of the Allied air forces in Normandy and state that the British and American troops are not inexperienced, but are largely already hardened by battles elsewhere,” states the Stockholm correspondent of “The Times.” A German military officer writes: "Never has the yottng and inexperienced German soldier had such a nerve-trying baptism as he is undergoing on the invasion front.” The "Deutsche Allgemeine Zeitung” states: "The British Expeditionary Force in 1940 was composed of the best well-trained troops, but it received a shock from the Luftwaffe, which dominated the skies. German soldiers are now similarly placed. They are confronted by an almost incomparably greater superiority in men, weapons, and material, but especially in the unprecedentedly enormous air forces.” Another Berlin commentator described the Allied, air effort as “fantastic.”
